HOW THE HUMID WITH A CHANCE OF FISHBALLS’ STORY BEGAN…

IT ALL STARTED WITH AN OLD MONG KOK WALK-UP & A SKEWER OF CURRY FISHBALLS

HELLO, I’M VIRGINIA. FOUNDER & OWNER

I moved to Hong Kong in 2012, partly because I wanted to live the Metropolitan lifestyle (a la Meghan Markle in Suits) and partly because I wanted to “discover my Chinese roots”. Surviving in Hong Kong on a temp Human Resources Specialist salary meant living in an old Mong Kok walk-up & having curry fishballs for dinner more than just a few times a week (not complainin’, just saying’).

One humid evening, whilst eating curry fishballs and imagining making it “big” one day, an inkling of the idea for this company & my love for curry fishballs began…

I probably should take this company more “corporate” and analyze P&Ls all day, but this company is first and foremost, my passion project. Money comes second to my purpose of educating and encouraging more people to learn about my own culture. So, come join me on my journey as we learn about my Chinese roots together… I heard there’s food involved 😉

VIRGINIA CHAN

Hi, I’m Virginia and I’m a CBC, a Canadian-born-Chinese. I like to say that my parts are from Hong Kong, but I was made and assembled in Canada.

All tours have been created and curated meticulously by yours truly and all tour guides have been trained to ensure they are a Hong Kong ambassador and a Humid with a Chance of Fishballs ambassador. None of us take ourselves too seriously and all tours are supposed to be entertaining, fun and a bit whimsical =)

NAM CHEAH

Hi, my name is Nam. I’m also known as twin #1 and the girl with a British accent who can’t stop eating.

I was born and raised in Hong Kong, but it wasn’t until after studying in the UK and coming back that I fell in love with it more. Growing up in boarding school, I’m pretty good with kids and teenagers 🙂 Being a blogger and travel writer was the perfect segue into being a tour guide and some of my absolute favourite things about Hong Kong are the skyline, diversity, and food. Let me show you Hong Kong through my eyes!

RICKY CHAN

After my student exchange program in Europe, I realized that Hong Kong should be introduced not just for shopping, but also for our distinct Hong Kong culture and traditions. Born and raised in Hong Kong, I’m a tour guide because I love sharing about MY Hong Kong as a combination of Western and Chinese culture fusing together.

Daytime, I’m a CPA-to-be but come weekends and evenings, I’m fulfilling your curiosity about Hong Kong. My feng shui and Hong Kong numerology stories will surely amuse you!

TOP RATED FOOD TOUR IN HONG KONG

This tour was so much fun. Our guide took us to local places that we would not have tried or known about. The tour was a great mix of food and cultural information and Whampoa was a lovely neighbourhood to do this in! Our guide was a fantastic guide, was very helpful, chatty and answered all of our additional questions. She’s a hit with the locals as well – I loved to see her bantering with them all.

Would definitely recommend this tour, get yourself to Whampoa with Humid with a Chance of Fishballs!

If you love food and you want to get off the well-worn tourist trails, then Humid with a Chance of Fishballs should be your first choice.  My husband had his ‘villains hit’ by one of the infamous ‘cursing grannies’, before we boarded a tram and travelled to our Sampan boat for delicious shellfish, including the re-nowed ‘Typhoon Shelter Crab’. The next day our guide guided us to one of the oldest dim sum restaurants in town, taught us how to get a seat – no, really, you’ve never done this before, I promise you! No easy feat, I can assure you!

I can highly recommend Humid With a Chance of Fishballs!

    UNIQUE & AUTHENTIC EXPERIENCES!

After a quick introduction we turned a few corners and found ourselves in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the back alleys of Hong Kong. Amidst a myriad of different food options she seems to be able to find the ones that offer that little bit extra.

Our guide seemed to have a genuinely great rapport with the hawkers and food stall owners we visited. If you’re looking for a genuine, authentic urban experience, we can definitely recommend going on this food tour. All we suggest is you bring an open mind and a healthy appetite; there’s going to be plenty of food and some of it will have you talking about it till late in the evening.
